Rules, Prizes, etc.
So here's the info:
* Four games. Bar Shuffleboard, Cricket Darts, Beirut aka Beer Pong, and 8-Ball Billiards. Surely if you're like us, you won't need an explanation of these games.
* $200 grand prize to winning team, guaranteed as long as there are at least 16 paid participants. (This gives us an out if the signups are slacking, or people are bums about their entry fees. But as long as 16 people pay to enter the contest, 1st place is $200.) You will also receive a trophy for 1st place, probably homemade and constructed poorly. Winning team splits prize - so, 4 people should split it $50 apiece.
* Other prizes may be given for runner-up teams, based on participating sponsors and success of signups. An assurance but not a promise: 2nd Place could receive a nice cash prize if we fill out the signups. Don't take that for granted, though.
* Each team has four people. One or two from each team are required to be present at the start of each event (you'll forfeit that event otherwise), and only one or two from each team will be allowed to compete in each event. We recommend having two people from your teams compete in each event, but if only one can be present, we'll happily allow. No in-game substitutions unless approved by the referees for extenuating or emergency circumstances, and the decision is entirely up to the refs and/or organizers.
* The organizers reserve the right to reassign any/all team members at will, no crying or whining! (That said, we'd only do that in extreme circumstances)
* You may sign up a team with less than four members AND declare that you would not like any random people placed in the open slots (to add up to four). However, this means you will be paying for those empty slots at $10 apiece, for a grand total of $40. If you wind up short-staffed and we do not find willing additions to your team, you won't be charged as such; in that case, just $10 each person.
* You must pay your entry fees at the beginning of the contest. Penalty for THE ENTIRE TEAM NOT PAYING IN FULL may include, but is not limited to, forfeiture of team for entire competition and/or inability to win prizes.
* Brackets and/or cycles will be constructed prior to the event, handed out on the day-of event. The tournament procession will be entirely dependent on number of teams present. We have creative solutions for situations involving 5-7 teams.
* The first round will consist of abbreviated versions of each game. Only applies to first round, subsequent rounds will follow normal rules of play. As follows:
- Shuffleboard: quick game with less turns, same rules.
- Billiards: Modified 8-Ball, once colors/stripes are determined then each team will remove 4 balls of their own color off the table to reduce number of necessary sunk balls. More explained on day of event.
- Beirut: 3 cups instead of 10.
- Darts: Same Cricket rules but NO POINTS, and YOU DO NOT NEED TO CLOSE BULLSEYE. Just close the numbers to win and advance.
Also, regarding the above: if there are only four registered teams, we will simply start with semifinals, along with normal rules of play.
* Tournament points will be assigned based on your rank in each game. The overall tournament ranks will be determined by the assigned points for each rank earned in single games. Margin of victory is irrelevant to points. The points system (TBD) will be set to reward the most well-rounded team. Example: if four different teams each come in first place for each game and all finish out of the pack for their other games, a team that wins second place for all four games would beat them for the tournament win. Tie ranks (say, two teams win two games apiece) will be broken by a mystery overtime game to be played at the end of the tournament. Muhahahahah!
* We strongly encourage the following: team leadership; excessive costuming; legions of fans making noise; truly disgusting trash talk. There could be *PRIZES* for such things, you know. No promises on that, of course, but hey - it's not about the destination, it's about the journey.
* Play hard, be motivated, don't dog it. Or else rules might suddenly change, the refs might get sloppy and/or distracted, the crowd will be taunted to go against you, etc.
* All or any rules can be changed, added, or removed at any time by the organizers. We will try to be fair, but remember that we'll be drinking the whole time too.

SIGNUPS ARE OPEN
Registration is now open. We're signing up eight teams of up-to 4 people each. Teams or individuals are allowed to register. The fee for playing is $10. Here's the deal:
* If you gather at team of 4 people on your own, register all together at once and you'll be all set.
* If you are an individual and want to enter without an existing team, register for yourself and we'll put you on a team.
* If you have a team of less than 4 people, we can fill your team out with single registrants. If you insist on being your own team with less than 4 people, you must pay $10 x 4 = $40 altogether. (We will not charge you extra fees if there are not enough signups to fill your team. Pay $10 each person in that case.)
All spots are first-come-first-serve. Team registration is closed at 8 teams; individual registration is closed when we have all teams filled with up-to 32 players.
This is how you enter the Fall Drinkathalon:
1. Send me an email (brianvan **at** gmail -dot- com) with the following:
- Your Name
- Names of your teammates (if any)
- Team name (if applicable)
2. Show up on the 13th ready to play with the required entry fee.
Note that this covers gameplay only, not liquor. For Beirut, we'll supply the beer for gameplay. All spectators can watch for free, of course.
Obvious: 21 and over ONLY!!!!
